How to buy from Brazil (without CPF)

Short answer: you don't need one.

The CPF is a requirement of Brazilian domestic retailers, not of Brazil itself. If you buy from a store that is set up to sell internationally, the question never comes up. This page explains what a CPF is, why it blocks foreigners, why the usual workarounds disappoint, and what actually works.

What a CPF is, and why every Brazilian site asks for it

The Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas is Brazil's individual taxpayer number, the equivalent of a national tax ID. Brazilian retailers are required to issue a nota fiscal - an official tax invoice - for every sale, and that document is tied to the buyer's CPF. It is not a marketing form field they could simply remove: it is how the sale is registered with the tax authority.

Which is why the checkout stops cold if you are not a Brazilian resident. You do not have the number, you cannot get one as a visitor, and no amount of customer-service conversation changes it. The store is not refusing you - it structurally cannot complete the sale.

The three workarounds people try, and why they disappoint

Asking someone in Brazil

It works exactly once, for one favour. Your friend pays in reais, uses their CPF, receives the parcel, then has to ship it abroad at their own cost - usually by post, usually without usable tracking, and with the duties billed to you on arrival. Nobody wants to be asked twice.

Freight forwarders and reshippers

You get a Brazilian address, but not a CPF - so most retailers still reject the order. When it does go through, you pay twice for shipping, wait for two separate legs, and hold a parcel nobody has inspected. If it is lost or seized on the international leg, the forwarder's liability is usually limited to the shipping fee, not the goods.

International marketplaces

This is where Brazilian professional haircare is most heavily counterfeited. A well-known smoothing treatment listed far below its normal price is not a bargain - it is a warning. Batch codes are frequently missing, formulations are often diluted or repackaged, and there is no route back to the brand.

What actually works: buying from a store that sells internationally

The route that does not involve a CPF is the simplest one: order from a retailer whose business is international sale and export, rather than from a Brazilian domestic shop that happens to be online. The paperwork is then an export declaration, not a nota fiscal tied to a Brazilian taxpayer.

MKPBR is built that way. We hold our own stock in Brazil, buy directly from brands and authorised distributors, and ship worldwide under our own name.

  • No CPF, no Brazilian bank account, no local tax ID. You check out with your own name, address and card, like any other international store.
  • Duties and taxes already included in the price. Nothing is added at checkout and nothing is collected at delivery - no customs invoice a week later.
  • Express shipping with door-to-door tracking via FedEx or DHL, to more than 200 countries and territories, typically 3 to 15 days end to end.
  • A delivery guarantee. If an order is held or seized at customs and cannot be released through no fault of your own, we refund it in full.
  • Authenticity you can trace. Sourced in Brazil from brands, authorised distributors and authorised Brazilian retailers - never from open marketplaces.

Being straight with you about the limits

What this route covers

Brazilian cosmetics, beauty, personal care and wellness: hair care and the professional smoothing and curl treatments Brazil is known for, skincare, makeup, bath and body, nail care, plus a small selection of Brazilian specialty coffee and lifestyle goods.

What it does not cover

Electronics, furniture, car parts, collectibles or general marketplace goods. If that is what brought you here, this page will not solve your problem, and we would rather say so than waste your time.

Worth knowing before you order: we cannot ship to P.O. boxes; the recipient's name must match their ID exactly, because the customs declaration is built from it; and we currently do not ship to Spain, Mexico or Venezuela. Labels are usually in Portuguese, since these products are made and labelled for the Brazilian market - which is precisely how you know they are the real thing.

Frequently asked questions

Can a foreigner get a CPF?

Non-residents can obtain one through a Brazilian consulate or the Receita Federal, and people who own property or invest in Brazil often do. For buying a few beauty products it is a disproportionate amount of paperwork - and it still leaves you with a Brazilian retailer who does not ship abroad.

Can I just use someone else's CPF?

No. The tax invoice is issued in that person's name, the order ships to their address, and any dispute or return belongs to them, not to you. Beyond the practical mess, using another person's tax number is not something we would recommend.

Will I pay customs duties when my order arrives?

Not on retail orders from MKPBR. Duties and taxes are already inside the price you see, and nothing is collected at delivery.

How long does it take?

Typically 3 to 15 days in total: 2 to 7 business days to process and pack, plus express transit. Checkout shows an estimate calculated from your postcode and the service you choose.

What if I want a product that is not in the store?

We can source specific cosmetics, beauty and personal-care products that we do not list, and quote before purchasing. This applies to beauty and personal care only - not food, coffee, supplements or electronics.
